Tabitha Matthews continues to fight in From Season 4. After the MGM+ series revealed Tabitha’s past lives in Season 3, the current story began with the devastating murder of Tabitha’s husband Jim Matthews. So how does she continue on after everything that’s happened and continues to happen?

Actor Catalina Sandino Moreno spoke to TVBrittanyF.com about where Tabitha stands now. She talked about if learning Tabitha’s backstory in Season 3 changed her approach to the character in Season 4. Plus, how much has Jim’s death affected her as a performer? And does she think Tabitha will survive through the fifth and final season?

Brittany Frederick: From revealed some huge information about Tabitha in Season 3—that she’s trapped in this town on a continual mission to save the children. Knowing that, did she feel like a new or different character to you in From Season 4?

Catalina Sandino Moreno: It just feels that it adds up to what she’s going through, especially kicking off Season 4 with the death of Jim. I think that she’s trying to understand one, and the next one hits her right in the face. I don’t think she has had enough time to just process the whole thing. I don’t think she has time to even process the death of Jim. It’s pretty much one after another after another. Let’s just keep moving. Let’s just keep moving this wheel.

Jim’s death is crushing for Tabitha, but what does it mean for you? You’ve spent years working with Eion Bailey, and then how is it to not have him continuing the journey with you?

It’s sad because I like working with with Eion, and Jim. As a character, he was the protector. He was the one that wanted to shield the family and shield Tabitha and her recklessness. He was the one that was grounding her. I just feel that Tabitha lost a very good partner in safeguarding her life. She’s very reactive. She just goes and [does] it. Jim was more of just relax, think about it, let’s not do this. I’m not very happy that Jim is not going to be with us anymore.

How does she move forward in the rest of From Season 4, especially since she doesn’t have that grounding influence? What keeps her going?

The drive is her children. I wouldn’t have done a few things that she did as a mother, but her drive [is] the kids. And if she is doing something it’s because of her children, and it’s because she wants to take care of them, and it’s because she doesn’t want them to be in that town one minute more than they should. It’s a lot; she has a lot on her table.

Fans now know that From is going to end with Season 5. Particularly after Jim’s death, how confident are you that Tabitha will make it to the end of the show?

Not confident at all. If someone says, “I feel 100 percent positive,” they’re in a different kind of show. We’re in a show where everything is unpredictable. We’re in a show that if it fits the story for someone to die, you’re dead. They love the characters, but they are very aware of the story they want to tell. Hopefully I’ll survive until the end, but if not, then it’s just for the story.
