Former Chicago Justice star Carl Weathers has snagged a 2021 Emmys nomination for his current role as Greef Karga on the Disney+ series The Mandalorian.
Weathers’ nomination in the Guest Actor in a Drama category was announced Tuesday morning with the rest of the 2021 Emmy nominations. His character Greef is the leader of the Bounty Hunters’ Guild and is both an ally and a potential adversary to Pedro Pascal’s title character at times; Weathers has also directed the hit Star Wars series, which was also nominated for the prestigious Best Drama trophy.
In the Guest Actor in a Drama race, Weathers will face off with his Mandalorian co-star Timothy Olyphant, as well as Don Cheadle (for The Falcon and the Winter Soldier), Courtney B. Vance (Lovecraft Country), and Charles Dance (The Crown). The winner will be announced during the Sept. 19 ceremony airing on CBS.
One Chicago fans still remember Carl Weathers for his role as State’s Attorney Mark Jefferies in the one and only season of Chicago Justice that aired on NBC in 2017. He reprised the role as a guest star in an episode of Chicago PD and later in an installment of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.
While he wasn’t recognized by the Emmys at the time, his nod today is still significant for the One Chicago fandom—because he’s the only Justice star to have an Emmy nomination, and the One Chicago universe as a whole has yet to have a main cast member get Emmy or Golden Globe recognition for their work on the NBC franchise.
