The critically acclaimed Broadway revival of Caroline, or Change is coming home courtesy of Broadway Records. Caroline, or Change: The New Broadway Cast Recording captures the songs of last fall’s Roundabout Theatre Company production starring Sharon D. Clarke (Doctor Who) in the title role and is released through the brand-new Broadway imprint Roundabout Records.
Caroline, or Change made its Roundabout Theatre Company debut in October 2021 with three-time Olivier Award winner Clarke at the helm and closed in January 2022. The actress, who’s also known to TV fans for her beautiful performance as Grace O’Brien in Doctor Who, portrayed Caroline at the Chichester Festival Theatre in 2017 and in the 2018 West End production before reassuming the role on Broadway. She won one of her Olivier Awards for this part as Best Actress in a Musical in 2019.
With music by Tony Award winner Jeanine Tesori and book/lyrics by Pulitzer Prize winner Tony Kushner, the musical is set in 1963 as Caroline Thibodeaux watches the civil rights movement change the world around her. Caroline is working as a maid in Louisiana and sees her life and the lives of the Jewish family she works for shift in the process. The album preserves the entire score from the Broadway revival, which also stars Frozen alum Caissie Levy as Rose Stopnick Gellman.
