Abingdon Theatre Company’s 29th season will kick off with the return of Broadway on the Bowery. The cabaret event takes place Wednesday, Nov. 3 in Duane Park, with direction by Abingdon Theatre Company artistic director Chad Austin and music direction by Nick Wilders.
The lineup of performers for this year’s show entitled “Red, Hot and Vaxed!” includes Falsettos alums Nick Adams and Audrey Cardwell, The Cher Show‘s Micaela Diamond and Teal Wicks, Evita‘s Rachel Potter, Kinky Boots alum Carrie St. Louis, Katie Thompson from Oklahoma and The Color Purple actress Rema Webb. Additional performers will be announced closer to the show date.
“I am elated to kick off ATC’s 29th season with Broadway on the Bowery at Duane Park,” Austin said. “The lineup of artists assembled to help celebrate our first in-person event is thrilling. It is bound to be a night you will not forget, a mix of your favorite uptown talent with a downtown twist. An evening not to be missed!”
As live theater reopens around the country, all eyes are on the New York theater scene as the pinnacle of the United States stage. Several major Broadway shows have announced reopening dates and restarted their box offices in anticipation of being able to welcome audiences again.
Abingdon Theatre Company has plans for a 29th season full of unique and important storytelling. Broadway on the Bowery will be just the start of programming that includes everything from dark comedy to inspirational life stories. They’re set to showcase some wonderful playwrights and productions that are different from anything else in New York or otherwise.
Broadway on the Bowery is the start of that, and also a chance for theater fans to see live performances in a venue that brings together both the glitz of Broadway and the grit of the Bowery. Anyone in the area this fall would be wise to add this night to their calendar.
