Drew Gasparini and friends will take center stage virtually when Broadway Records throws a virtual listening party for I Could Use A Drink: The Songs of Drew Gasparini on Monday, July 26 as the show prepares to make its London stage debut.
The listening party, starting at 6:00 p.m. ET/3:00 p.m. PT and exclusively on the Broadway Records YouTube channel, will feature Gasparini and a cast of collaborators as they talk about the process of developing the show, recording the album, and what it’s like to develop a new musical in 2021. They’ll also answer questions sent in by the YouTube audience.
Gasparini is currently developing a Broadway musical adaptation of the hit Karate Kid film franchise, and his varied resume also includes the infamous “Skittles: The Musical” Super Bowl commercial featuring Michael C. Hall, writing songs for the musical-within-a-musical Hit List as part of NBC‘s Smash, and TV personality Marc Summers’ one-man show Everything in its Place: The Life and Slimes of Marc Summers.
Confirmed to be at the event alongside Gasparini are two-time Tony Award nominee Alex Brightman, F. Michael Haynie, Andrew Kober, Kasie Gasparini and Chloe George.
I Could Use A Drink: The Songs of Drew Gasparini also features appearances by Jeremy Jordan (on the track “No Turning Back Now”), original Frozen: The Broadway Musical star Caissie Levy (“What Remains”), and Tony Award winner and All Rise alum Lindsay Mendez (“Circus”).
With a combination of semi-autobiographical songs and contemporary numbers, and with recording sessions held literally across the world from San Francisco to Melbourne, the album has been on as much of a journey as the composer and artist it represents, so Monday’s event should be an incredible opportunity to hear the stories behind the songs and learn more about one of Broadway’s most creative personalities.
