Chicago Fire’s Adriyan Rae returning to TV in The Game revival

Former Chicago Fire star Adriyan Rae is returning to TV with a starring role in the upcoming The Game revival, according to a report from Deadline.

The actress is playing a grown-up version of Brittany Pitts, the daughter of Jason and Kelly Pitts, portrayed by Coby Bell and Brittany Daniel. Daniel will be making a “special [guest] appearance” in the sequel while Bell was originally said to be attached back in February but wasn’t mentioned in the latest report.

Rae surprised Chicago Fire fans last season when she chose to leave a starring role on the NBC drama after just nine episodes due to personal reasons. Her character Gianna Mackey was introduced as the new paramedic at Firehouse 51 and written out by getting a better job opportunity at another firehouse; Rae was then replaced by Hanako Greensmith, who was promoted to series regular recently.

While Adriyan Rae has a starring role in The Game, the commitment is much less than that of her previous part. The new series will only be 10 episodes long, as opposed to the 18-24 episodes of a network show. It will also be exclusive to Paramount Plus.

Another question is what audiences should expect to see from her. The first few seasons of The Game, which aired on The CW, were more comedic in tone; when the series moved to BET for the rest of its run, it became much more of a drama. Plus, the fact that Rae is playing an older version of an established character means there’s that part to incorporate. She could be doing anything from sitcom-style comedy to very serious drama, and how much screen time will she get with her TV parents, or will they just make one-off appearances to pass the proverbial baton?

But for audiences who liked her on Chicago Fire and were disappointed by her exit, this is another chance to see her in a series regular role, albeit on a streaming service.

This new version of The Game moves the setting from San Diego to Las Vegas, but keeps the focus on professional football players and their significant others. The revival will introduce new players and new relationships while original cast members Daniel, Pooch Hall, Hosea Chanchez and Wendy Raquel Robinson are set to make appearances. A premiere date has yet to be announced.
