Moms: The Musical

Moms: The Musical cast announced ahead of workshop

Moms: The Musical has revealed its cast as the show prepares for its July 24 workshop!

The production will star Sydney Wesson (American Idiot) as workaholic mom Justine Clearwater, with Leah Platt (the U.S. tour of Fiddler on the Roof) as Justine’s opposite number, stay-at-home parent Mia Swanson. The two of them form an unlikely friendship through their common bond of motherhood.

They also meet some interesting other parents in a group chat: Jenna Leavitt (Grease) plays the wealthy single mom Brittany, while Jessie Macbeth (Hair) portrays funky, creative Renatta and Annie Raczko (the off-Broadway production of Humanity’s Child) rounds out the social circle as fun-loving and infinitely supportive Jade.

And since no musical about motherhood would be complete without commentary from the main characters’ own moms, Jill Lord (the international tour of The King and I) stars in the role of Doreen/Joan, who’s Justine’s meddling mother-in-law.

The Moms: The Musical cast is rounded out by Dan Pavacic (The Jungle Book) as Justine’s husband, Sean Ricciardi (FBI: Most Wanted) as Mia’s husband, and Lucy Bobbin (The Addams Family) as the swing/understudy.

Tickets are still available for the workshop, which takes place on July 24 at 2:00 p.m. ET/11:00 a.m. PT; theater fans around the country can attend as it will also be available to stream online. Proceeds from ticket sales also support the nonprofit Moms for Moms NYC, which helps single mothers in New York.

There is literally every reason to check out this bold new take on motherhood from the minds of Kelly Surette and Teddy Hall; you can click the link above to check out my interview with them about how the show came to be, and the statement they’re trying to make about what it really means to be a mother. There are quirks and there are struggles, but it can also be an incredible journey—and now we know who will be bringing that story to life.

Tickets for the Moms: The Musical workshop are on sale now here. For more information on Kelly and Teddy, and all of their projects, make sure you visit their website SuretteandHall.com.
