Ato Essandoh saw some wild things on Chicago Med, but nothing as crazy as what he’ll experience in the upcoming horror movie Outpost. Deadline reports that Essandoh is one of several stars cast in the film that is being directed by Joe Lo Truglio (Brooklyn Nine-Nine).
Outpost centers on a woman fighting demons and is described by Lo Truglio as “a nightmare on a mountain,” which certainly sounds like another survival-type story. While no details were given about the character that Ato is playing, Deadline did add that the film starts production on Sunday.
One Chicago fans know Ato Essandoh from his recurring role as Dr. Isidore Latham, the hospital’s head of cardiothoracic surgery, starting in Chicago Med season 2. Latham has been seen infrequently on the show since; the cardiothoracic department is no longer a focus after Dr. Connor Rhodes (Colin Donnell) was dropped from the cast, and Essandoh’s been busy with a host of other projects.
The actor was a series regular on CBS’s military drama The Code, followed by Netflix’s space drama Away, both of which were cancelled after one season. His other credits include Netflix’s Altered Carbon and CBS’s long-running police procedural Blue Bloods.
While it’s hard to guess how much of him we’ll see in Outpost since we know nothing about his role, he’s one of those actors who brings something worth watching to every character he plays, so hopefully he’ll stick around for at least a decent part of the movie. Essandoh joins fellow One Chicago alum Dylan Baker (Chicago Fire and Chicago PD), Dallas Roberts (The Good Wife), Becky Ann Baker, Ta’Rea Campbell and Beth Dover in the film.
Chicago Med airs Wednesdays at 8:00 p.m. ET/PT on NBC.
