Ariana DeBose among performers for The Show Must Go On premiere

Theater documentary The Show Must Go On premieres Monday at Broadway’s Majestic Theatre, and an all-star lineup of artists has been enlisted to perform during the August 9 special event.

Schmigadoon! star Ariana DeBose, who can currently be seen as Emma Tate in the hit Apple TV+ series, will be among the performers. The headliners also include Ciara Renee (who starred as Elsa in Frozen: The Broadway Musical and Hawkgirl in the first season of DC’s Legends of Tomorrow), Tony Award winner Adrienne Warren (critically acclaimed for her performance as Tina Turner in Tina), Sierra Boggess (The Phantom of the Opera and its sequel Love Never Dies), Ali Ewoldt and Shireen Pimentel.

Additional performers scheduled are Isa Antonetti, Courtney Bassett, Rebecca Hargrove, Joomin Hwang, Emilie Kouatchou, and Adam Richardson.

The event will be the first time that the Majestic Theatre has hosted a live audience since closing due to the COVID-19 pandemic nearly 18 months ago, and will simultaneously serve as a premiere and a fundraiser for The Actors Fund.

The Show Must Go On is a documentary that follows theatre during the COVID-19 pandemic, through the lens of two Andrew Lloyd Webber musicals. Audiences watch the South Korean tour of Cats and the world tour of The Phantom of the Opera as they continue to perform in the face of a worldwide health crisis and keep theatre going as best they can.

It also tracks Lloyd Webber himself, headquartered back in the United Kingdom while he tries to take the lessons learned from these overseas productions to help get London’s fabled West End and Broadway back on their feet. Among his initiatives was starting a YouTube channel called The Shows Must Go On! that allowed theater fans around the world to stream select Lloyd Webber productions for free.

The Phantom of the Opera world tour members Joseph DePietro, Luke Grooms, Ayaka Kamei, Eric Anthony López, and Curt Olds will also perform at The Show Must Go On premiere, giving audiences a chance to hear them after following their story in the documentary.

The Show Must Go On hails from Tony and Emmy Award-winning documentary filmmaker Dori Berinstein, theater director Sammi Cannold, WYSIWYG Studios, CEO Kwan-woo Park and Elizabeth Armstrong. With the names attached, the film will certainly have a premiere worthy of the brightest lights of Broadway. Watch The Show Must Go On trailer below.

Tickets for The Show Must Go On premiere at the Majestic Theatre are still available here. Details about the film’s release outside of this event have yet to be announced.
