Chicago PD: Ricardo Chavira joins the show
Episode Title: “End of Watch”
Episode Description: Ruzek reunites with an old colleague to take down a crime ring but when things don’t add up, Voight and Burgess do some investigating of their own.
What To Watch For: We could just repeat our comments from two weeks ago because “In the Dark” turned out to not be an Adam Ruzek episode at all—it was another Hailey Upton episode with Ruzek (Patrick John Flueger) playing the supporting role. “End of Watch” is definitively a Ruzek-centric episode, and Chicago PD fans will be able to sense some familiar themes.
This is another installment where an ally from someone’s past comes back but may not be on the up-and-up. We’ve seen it before with Upton’s old sergeant and two of Hank Voight‘s former partners. But what makes it cool to go down this road again is that Chicago PD always casts excellent guest stars to fill those key roles. We’ve had Wil Traval (Jessica Jones), Mark Dacascos (Hawaii Five-0), Mykelti Williamson (Boomtown) and now joining them is Ricardo Chavira (Desperate Housewives, Scandal).
Chavira is going to be a lot of fun to watch; it sounds from the description like we could be in for something similar to his Scandal role, where he seems like a great guy and then the skeletons come out of the closet. It’ll be interesting to see him play off Flueger as well since that’s not an actor pairing one would expect. Let’s see what Chavira’s character reveals about his past and if anything in their renewed interactions hints toward anything in Adam’s future. Most of Ruzek’s backstory has come through appearances by his dad so this is a new direction to pull that out in.
Plus, the mention of Voight and Kim Burgess working together is fantastic! That’s one of those dynamics that Burgess hasn’t gotten to explore as much. So between that potential screen time and the scenes we’ll get with Flueger and Chavira, this could be one of the best Chicago PD episodes of season 9 so far.
Chicago Med, Chicago Fire and Chicago PD air Wednesdays from 8:00-11:00 p.m. ET/PT on NBC.
