Chicago Fire gets second syndication deal with MyNetworkTV

Chicago Fire will be added to the schedule of MyNetworkTV channels on September 14, replacing crime drama Law & Order: Criminal Intent.

MyNetworkTV is a collection of syndicated TV stations, running repeats of NBC programs during the week. Chicago Fire will air back-to-back episodes on Tuesdays at 8:00 p.m. ET/PT, which is ironically the same day that reruns of the show also are available starting at 11:00 a.m. ET/PT on ION.

Crime drama fans won’t be surprised that MyNetworkTV is using Fire to replace Criminal Intent; that Law & Order spinoff ended a decade ago in 2011, and Chicago Fire is still on the air. The network programmers are likely looking to offer something different, and the change also means that all the shows on MyNetworkTV are ones that are current.

The One Chicago franchise is Dick Wolf’s biggest property at the moment, with new episodes still airing on NBC every Wednesday night and the ION deal announced earlier this year. Adding MyNetworkTV to the equation means more money for Universal Television, which makes the show, and another option for fans to see reruns without having to sign up for a streaming service like Hulu or NBCUniversal’s own Peacock.

The rest of the MyNetworkTV 2021-2022 schedule includes Chicago PD (Thursdays at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT and Fridays from 8:00-10:00 p.m. ET/PT), Law & Order: Special Victims Unit (Mondays from 8:00-10:00 p.m. ET/PT), and true crime newsmagazine Dateline (Wednesdays from 8:00-10:00 p.m. ET/PT and Thursdays at 8:00 p.m. ET/PT).

With both Chicago Fire and Chicago PD each airing on ION and MyNetworkTV, plus repeats of PD happening on NBC’s sister stations USA and Oxygen, this week’s news makes it all the more glaring that Chicago Med has yet to find a second home anywhere despite reaching its 100th episode (the usual number required to get any kind of syndication deal). Will the medical drama be able to land on a cable network eventually?
