NBC‘s wildly popular One Chicago franchise is expanding again, this time into the podcast space. The One Chicago Podcast is coming to Apple Podcasts, Spotify and all other podcast platforms on Sept. 18—just a few weeks ahead of the new seasons of Chicago Med, Chicago Fire and Chicago PD. But unlike many other podcasts, this one has a not-so-secret weapon.

The host of The One Chicago Podcast will be Brian Luce, the former Chicago police officer who has served as a producer and technical consultant on Chicago PD for years. For those not in the know, Luce has done a lot to make Chicago PD as successful as it is. So rather than just another TV-adjacent podcast or aftershow hosted by someone the audience may not know, this one is being helmed by someone who is actually involved with the making of the franchise and has a perspective on the behind-the-scenes production elements that viewers want to know about.

NBC’s launch announcement confirmed that Chicago PD star Jason Beghe and Chicago Fire star David Eigenberg will be two of the guests this season, which begins on Sept. 18 with new episodes each Thursday. There will be 28 episodes in the season, with the podcast highlighting actors as well as “writers, showrunners, crew and more” while they share stories from the set.

Another intriguing element is that NBC will be utilizing its One Chicago YouTube channel to publish video versions of select episodes. The Wolf Entertainment official YouTube channel had previously done something similar with its Unscripted series, pairing actors from different One Chicago shows together for conversations, but the podcast will now have a direct link to viewers, who go to the One Chicago YouTube every week to see clips from the latest episodes.

While there are numerous fan-created One Chicago podcasts, this is the first official move for the franchise into the podcast space and another way to drive viewer engagement. Since new podcast episodes will arrive on Thursdays, viewers will be able to enjoy episodes on Wednesday night and then carry that excitement over to hearing behind-the-scenes stories on Thursday. The creation of The One Chicago Podcast broadens the brand beyond just one night of television—and it has the perfect host to make it captivating.
