With the NFL season days away, Pepsi has enlisted Josh Allen and Justin Jefferson for their latest football ad campaign. The “Pepsi Tailgate Crashers” ad is a spin on the company’s “Party Crashers” campaign—this time with serious star power.

In the 30-second spot, Allen and Jefferson are recruited to get Pepsi into the hands of fans at NFL tailgates, even as Minnesota Vikings star Jefferson points out that “We usually work on Sundays.” Allen decides to cancel his plans and send Pepsi cans slamming into Los Angeles Chargers fans. It’s perfect for the Buffalo Bills quarterback and reigning NFL MVP, who’s brought a self-deprecating approach to all of his commercial opportunities.

This isn’t the first time Pepsi and the NFL have come together, or even for Pepsi to team up with Allen. Earlier this year, the Bills posted a video in which Allen hid in the back of a Pepsi truck to surprise fans. And in 2024, he appeared in a “How to Buffalo Your Pepsi” video. The “Tailgate Crashers” spot is an example of mixing established star power with an already recognizable advertising campaign to create something immediately recognizable.

The new commercial is just the beginning for Pepsi’s collaboration with the NFL this season. Future ads with other football stars, such as Allen’s teammate Damar Hamlin and the Philadelphia Eagles’ Jordan Mailata, will follow later in 2025. Even more fun is the fact that the company will be doing in-person activations ahead of select NFL games—including one at SoFi Stadium, the home of the Chargers and Los Angeles Rams, which makes that scene with Allen’s spot-on Pepsi pass a little prescient. Watch the full ad below and keep your eyes on Pepsi’s social media for future details.
